You're right. Online, it is so much easier for a customer to click away and go with a competitor. Thus all the more reason to make sure your website is running properly and provides a great customer experience.

Wise words, and ones that apply so well to online commerce.

Affiliate publishing requires the customer to make her purchase on the merchant's website. We're extremely careful in choosing which merchants we represent and check their sites frequently to make sure everything is 'as expected' on our mutual clients' arrival. Sometimes our only choice is to 'vote with our feet' - dropping the merchant if their site is broken, difficult to navigate, misbehaves at the cart - if the merchant ignores requests for repair, clarification, etc.

To keep the relationship going would put us (and them) in the same box as you've shown, where clients come to investigate and compare, and go elsewhere to purchase.
